Cubs was created to support and celebrate the many culturally diverse families across Aotearoa New Zealand who choose home-based childcare. We work alongside families and educators to create meaningful learning experiences for children in a warm, home environment.

At Cubs, we believe every child should have access to quality educational resources and guidance. Our programme is inspired by our philosophy of learning from home, where culture, language, and play-based learning are valued and supported. Our approach is guided by Te Whāriki, New Zealand’s Early Childhood Curriculum, while also acknowledging the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and our shared connection to people, land, and community.

We aim to create a nurturing and stimulating environment where tamariki feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn. Each child’s learning journey is unique, and we encourage hands-on, play-based experiences that reflect their interests, strengths, and individual pace of development.

Cubs celebrates the many languages and cultures within our communities, encouraging children to express themselves and learn through both planned activities and natural everyday experiences. Children are supported by caring educators and a community that values strong relationships and quality early learning.

Our service and educational resources are free for families who have an educator caring for their preschool-aged child. This could be a grandparent, family member, nanny, au pair, or home-based educator.

Families can also take advantage of dual enrolment, meaning children can be enrolled with Cubs while also attending another early childhood service, as long as the hours do not overlap.
